Managed switches for high safety requirements

The IEC 62443 certification proves that the managed switches have been developed in accordance with internationally recognized standards for OT security and tested in accordance with the criteria of Security Level Capability SL-C 2. Their use enables users to significantly reduce the risk of cyberattacks on industrial networks.

This latest certification once again underlines Phoenix Contact’s consistent focus on cybersecurity in industry. At the beginning of 2025, the company’s product development process was recertified by TÜV Rheinland in accordance with IEC 62443-4-1. Since then, the secure-by-design development processes have been steadily applied to numerous products such as controllers, firewalls, managed switches, and routers.

The number of Phoenix Contact products certified in accordance with IEC 62443-4-2 now runs into double figures. Further devices are in the certification process and are expected to receive their certification in 2026. In addition, seven Business Units are certified up to Maturity Level 3 and the company’s own Product Security Incident Response Team (Product Security Incident Response Team) is also certified. This team identifies and evaluates security vulnerabilities, coordinates cooperation with internal product experts, and provides information on confirmed vulnerabilities in the form of safety notes. This certification underlines the company’s ability to respond quickly and effectively to security incidents and to comprehensively safeguard its automation systems.

The certifications also make it easier to integrate the products into new and existing security concepts that meet the future requirements of cybersecurity legislation such as NIS 2 and the new Machinery Regulation. This provides machine builders and system manufacturers with the necessary planning security to ensure that safety requirements are met in the future. All certifications are part of Phoenix Contact’s holistic 360° security concept, which ensures the security of products and systems throughout their entire life cycle.
