Tekton3 and Secton3 were verified with the new 5G V2X function of the R&S CMP180 Radio Communication Tester

Autotalks, a provider of vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication solutions, has verified the performance of its third-generation V2X chipset with test equipment and test expertise from Rohde & Schwarz. Tekton3 and Secton3 were verified with the new 5G V2X function of the R&S CMP180 Radio Communication Tester. The two companies will jointly present a 5G V2X test setup at the Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona.

With this cooperation, Rohde & Schwarz and the Israeli fabless semiconductor company Autotalks want to ensure the flawless functionality of 5G V2X technology. This will make it possible to equip the entire ecosystem with the next V2X generation – a decisive step towards further improving vehicle communication and realizing the safety and efficiency benefits of autonomous driving.

New 5G V2X function of the R&S CMP180

The R&S CMP180 test platform is a non-signaling solution for wireless devices that supports both cellular and non-cellular technologies. Recently, Rohde & Schwarz added a 5G V2X test function to the R&S CMP180, enabling the complete range of technologies supported by Autotalks’ chipset to be tested with a single device. The single-box tester has two analyzers, two generators and two times eight RF test ports. Several testers can be stacked for further upscaling. This provides an ideal solution for simultaneous measurements of different technologies and devices in R&D and mass production. This means that customers can use the R&S CMP180 to test all three V2X sidelink standards simultaneously.

Autotalks chipset with new 5G-V2X simultaneous operation capability

The TEKTON3 and SECTON3 Autotalks chipsets are the first chipsets to support all four V2X sidelink communication standards: LTE-V2X, IEEE 802.11p (DSRC), the new 5G-V2X and 802.11bd. These chipsets not only support 5G-V2X operation alone, but also in parallel with another radio technology. This enables the integration of 5G-V2X while continuing to use the installation basis of legacy technology. In Europe, where 5G-V2X is expected to be introduced first, this could be DSRC, for example.

5G-V2X accelerates sidelink communication in road traffic

V2X is a key technology designed to increase traffic efficiency, improve road safety and support autonomous driving. It enables direct, reliable and low-latency communication between different vehicles (V2V), vehicles and infrastructure (V2I) and vehicles and pedestrians (V2P). With its higher-level modulation method and two-way group communication, 5G-V2X opens up new use cases, including cooperative driving maneuvers such as zipping and the extended exchange of sensor data.

Christoph Pointner, Senior Vice President Mobile Radio Testers at Rohde & Schwarz, explains: “The close cooperation with the leading V2X chipset provider Autotalks enables us to mutually validate our solutions. It also provides our respective customers with a reputable reference and allows us to accelerate the adoption of 5G-V2X across the ecosystem. We are pleased with the good cooperation with Autotalks and also that the new 5G-V2X feature of our Radio Communication Tester has played a significant role in this important step for the industry.”

Amos Freund, Vice President R&D at Autotalks, comments: “Validation is a crucial step in the product development cycle and a prerequisite for an interoperable ecosystem. Our collaboration with Rohde & Schwarz helps not only us but the entire industry by bringing 5G V2X technology closer to market readiness. We are very pleased to be working with R&S to test our 3rd generation chipset, the world’s first 5G V2X chipset.

Rohde & Schwarz will be presenting a 5G V2X test setup with the R&S CMP180 and the third-generation Autotalks chipset at the Mobile World Congress 2024 in the Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, Hall 5, Booth 5A80.
