Sendix encoders have been an integral part of the Kübler product portfolio for many years and impress customers worldwide with their reliability, robustness, and versatility. Building on this success story, Kübler has now developed a universal optical sensor platform for incremental and absolute encoders. At the heart of the new generation is innovative sensor technology, combined with powerful signal processing and a particularly robust mechanical design – the new Sendix K series. Kübler launched the first incremental variants of this platform at the beginning of the year. The first absolute variants will now be presented at the SPS trade fair.

In the world of encoders, the standard incremental encoder in 58 mm format is the most common. It is used for both speed feedback and position measurement and has developed into an “all-rounder” overtime. Optical rotary encoders in particular have established themselves thanks to their high accuracy, signal quality, and pronounced immunity to interference. The comparatively simple incremental sensor technology also enables a particularly robust design that is just as suitable for outdoor applications with a wide range of temperatures as it is for environments with high shock and vibration. This versatility has led to many different variants for almost every installation situation and application. The Sendix series has set benchmarks over many years, particularly in terms of robustness and flexibility.

Absolute as small as incremental
Until now, switching from incremental to absolute encoders usually meant considerable effort for users, as the installation space and technical parameters – such as temperature behavior, shock and vibration resistance, or bearing load – differed. Absolute systems were previously neither as compact nor as robust as incremental ones. This is exactly what the new Sendix encoder platform changes: the devices offer the same installation space and robustness as incremental encoders. This significantly simplifies integration thanks to the uniform design-in and gives designers maximum flexibility.

In addition, users can configure numerous parameters themselves, such as resolution, signal format, and output driver. Thanks to powerful digital signal processing, absolute and incremental signals can be output simultaneously in freely selectable resolution and combination. Kübler provides an easy-to-use programming box for this purpose, which can also be used with other programmable products from the company, such as the RIM 2000/5000 bearingless magnetic encoder systems or the LIM 2000/5000 linear magnetic systems. The new generation of encoders thus achieves unprecedented flexibility and robustness for applications – even in the most demanding outdoor environments.

Safer with Safety-Lock 2.0
Sendix encoders set new benchmarks on several levels. The proven and extremely robust mechanical “Safety-Lock” design has been further developed: With the new Safety-Lock 2.0, three different operating principles create an extremely reliable and resistant bearing assembly. This is complemented by a robust flange-housing connection. An innovative shielding concept contributes significantly to interference immunity.

The new devices also set new standards in terms of operating limits:

  • Temperature range from –40 °C to +110 °C (depending on variant)
  • High shock and vibration resistance
  • Compact installation space with high bearing load

The K58 series is available with a continuous hollow shaft of up to 25.2 mm for a diameter of 58 mm, while the K80 series is available with a hollow shaft of up to 42 mm for a diameter of 80 mm. A digital twin can be provided as an option for the new encoders. This greatly facilitates error-free documentation, especially for the programmable variants, and represents additional added value for the user.
