Losan Pharma, aims to expand its production capacities. A new manufacturing plant is set to commence operations in 2025. At the same time, a new logistics center is being established, for which SSI Schaefer has been appointed as the general contractor for intralogistics. The scope of delivery includes an automated pallet high-bay silo, energy-efficient storage and retrieval machines, automated guided vehicles, extensive conveyor technology, and the integration of the new warehouse into the existing SAP EWM.

Losan Pharma has been an innovative CDMO partner (Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization) for the pharmaceutical industry since 1992. With more than 750 employees, the company, founded in 1992 in Neuenburg am Rhein, South Germany, undertakes the development, manufacturing, and packaging of smart pharmaceuticals on behalf of its pharmaceutical clients and offers analytical services and artwork services.

Since 2017, the company’s expansion strategy has focused on a second location in nearby Eschbach. On the Losan Pharma Campus, breaking the ground for an innovative logistics center took place in September 2024. The commissioning is planned for the end of 2026. The fully automated high-bay warehouse will then supply the newly constructed production facilities with raw materials. Additionally, it will serve as a shipping warehouse for the pharmaceuticals produced in Eschbach.

As the general contractor for intralogistics, SSI Schaefer delivers the complete storage and conveyor technology and manages the involved trades. Losan Pharma’s high-bay warehouse is being constructed by SSI Schaefer as a self-supporting steel structure in silo construction, eliminating the need for a separate hall construction. The high-bay warehouse, from where the production and packaging buildings are supplied and disposed of, is founded at a depth of 6 meters.

Intelligent Conveyor Solution from DS Automotion

In the basement, an automated guided vehicle system (AGV) with two Amadeus classic vehicles connects the conveyor technology with four pallet lifters. The vehicles transport raw materials and finished pharmaceutical products. Another AGV, with an Amadeus classic, is used on the ground floor to connect sample trains to the high-bay warehouse. All AGV solutions are provided by DS Automotion, a company of the SSI Schaefer Group. Five energy-efficient SSI Exyz storage and retrieval machines, which will supply the 20,000 double-deep pallet spaces in the warehouse completely automatically, will handle the conveying processes within the high-bay warehouse.

Connection to SAP EWM via SWAN

The order management of the entire storage and conveyor technology is carried out via the SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) software already used at Losan Pharma. The integration of the storage and conveyor technology into SAP EWM is realized by SWAN, a project house for SAP logistics and also a member of the SSI Schaefer Group.
