WEG Motor Scan enables easy real-time monitoring
WEG, a leading worldwide vendor of drive technology, has developed WEG Motor Scan as a solution for remote monitoring of electric motors. WEG Motor Scan enables cost-effective real-time monitoring of WEG electric motors using a smart device app available for Android and iOS. Any desired number of motors can be monitored via the app. Plant operators and maintenance staff can use the acquired operation data to schedule preventive or predictive maintenance activities. This helps prolong motor lifetime and contributes to higher system availability.

Condition monitoring for industrial applications
Measuring just 44 x 38 x 25 mm, the WEG Motor Scan module can be mounted on WEG electric motors with IEC frame sizes from 63 to 450 as a retrofit. Along with surface temperature and operating time, it measures motor vibration. That capability is provided by a three-axis vibration sensor with 3 kHz bandwidth. Future versions of WEG Motor Scan will also be able to measure and log motor speed, start and stop times, motor load and efficiency.
Designed and built with IP66 protection rating, the condition monitoring solution is suitable for a very wide range of industrial applications. The battery lifetime is three years. WEG Motor Scan can also work reliably under very severe conditions with ambient temperatures from minus 40 to plus 80 degrees Celsius. The collected data is sent via Bluetooth (or via gateway technologies in future) to a secure cloud, where it can be accessed by a mobile app or a web portal – the WEG IoT platform. This enables detailed analysis of the monitored motors.
The WEG IoT platform provides extensive analysis tools for fault diagnosis and supports configuration of alerts in the event that specific values are exceeded. It allows maintenance staff to call up real-time data on current motor performance anywhere using a tablet or smartphone, analyse the data directly with the app or web portal, and take appropriate action. In future, the unit will be able to acquire additional data to enable even more detailed analyses. This means that energy efficiency as well as motor condition (imbalance, misalignment and bearing condition) will be measurable.
